Hewlett Packard
William Hewlett and David Packard started, what is now, the world's largest technology company in a garage in 1939. The company began with $538 in capital and a coin toss to determine whether the company would be named Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett. The duo's first fiscally successful product was a precision audio oscillator, the HP200A. The Walt Disney Company was among Hewlett-Packard's earliest customers when they purchased eight HP200B oscillators (a sale totaling $572) to use in certifying the Fantasound surround sound systems installed in theaters for the movie Fantasia. The two Stanford graduates have brought HP a long way since its humble beginnings. Today, Hewlett-Packard (HP) operates in over 170 countries and was ranked #9 in Fortune magazine's Fortune 500 list.
Hewlett-Packard currently produces computing, networking, and storage hardware, develops software, and provides a variety of other services and solutions. Some of HP's major product lines include: PCs, enterprise servers, storage devices, printers and a host imaging products. HP's three business groups focus on personal systems, imaging and printing, and enterprise business respectively. Collectively these divisions cover everything from business and personal PCs to mobile computing to commercial printing and powerful enterprise networking solutions. HP's sponsorships include Walt Disney World's Mission: SPACE in Epcot Park, a Formula 1 racing team, and the HP Pavilion (home of the San Jose Sharks).
