3.1 Phillip Lim
Phillip Lim burst onto the scene at New York Fashion Week in the fall of 2005 with his collection 3.1 Phillip Lim. Launched with his friend and fabric supplier Wen Zhou, the line almost instantly became a critical and commercial success. Lim received first place in Fashion Group International's 2006 Women's Designer Rising Star category, and actresses like Natalie Portman and Kate Hudson were soon spotted around town wearing Lim's creations. The first free-standing 3.1 Phillip Lim store was opened in June 2007 on Mercer Street in New York City. The brand can now be found worldwide at department stores and boutiques.
Lim's designs are characterized by refinement with a touch of imperfection and unexpected quirkiness. Fabrics like washed silks, lamé, and laundered cottons are paired with hand stitching and splashes of pearls and crystals. Each piece is effortlessly chic, laid-back, and unique. Today, 3.1 Phillip Lim includes lines for women, men and children, in addition to shoes, boots, belts, eyewear, and bags. Lim has also collaborated with other designers to make collections at a variety of stores, making his designs accessible to a wider audience. The organic Go Green Go collection features the designer's signature silhouettes in sustainable fabrics.
